We will also hold our prize draw for the Lego Ocean Explorer. Break for coffee to avoid the post meal crash! STEM CPD opportunities. Computing, Technology and Science examples of STEM CPD available here and things you could use with your pupils in the future. Awards and goodbyes – hopefully a big group shot and any others if needed.

Polar Explorer programme £200 million government investment for new polar research ship RRS Sir David Attenborough will enable world leading research in Antarctica and Arctic for 25 years Latest instrumentation, endurance and ice strength State of the art sub sea vehicle Boaty McBoatface Funding from Dept for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy Working with BEIS, NERC, BAS and others A quick reminder of the boat and what sparked all this. Relate to Tim Peake Project and how STEM continues to develop and how we can keep this relevant for our pupils and ourselves. Talk Physics being lots of 200yr old items and how things like this should help spark our interest and engagement.

Some numbers… In the 1st year the landing page has had over 12,000 page views (that’s 1,000+ visits a month). Overall there have been 30,000 page views across community groups, resources, CPD and more. This has only been for almost 1/5th of the programme. It’s going to get busy, busy, busy!! 2018 – The year RRS Sir David Attenborough hits the water…how’s that going by the way? Won’t bore with stats as that’s not what today is about, but just a quick overview about the website and how we are doing!! Very good numbers indeed…compared to other programmes it’s doing really well.

Boaty McBoatface Boaty wanted some input into this…so here they are!!!

Keynote: Ricky Munday Ricky is one of our Polar Ambassadors, and leads quite the life!! He is Head of Corporate Services at BAS and has experience in STEM across the globe. This talk will encompass lots of things you can share with students and feel free to ask questions at the end. Introduce Ricky then hand over to him for talk and questions.

Case Studies – Neston Primary As previously stated, we had high aspirations for the programme but we have seen things that have totally exceeded all our expectations. We will now hear from Neston Primary from Cheshire. After this on tables we would like you to share your experiences and if you have a poster of the work you have undertaken please put this up and present this to others. Firstly introduce Sue Andrews who was the Polar Ambassador for Neston. (separate presentation – on system) Then hand over to staff and students from Neston to give their point of view (separate presentation – on system and memory stick) AFTER: On your tables if you have brought a poster with you share the work you did and what went well with the students. We will look more at what you will do in the future this afternoon. This is more a celebration of what you did and what others did that might inspire you or spark and interest.

Lunch Please help yourselves to lunch in the Atrium. Use this time to share your successes and what you have learned from the programme. This afternoon we will look at some of the results we have had back and look at the impact this programme has had so far. We will also look at the legacy, and how to maintain the momentum of the programme. See you back here at 13:30pm. During lunch, continue conversations, look at the resource centre (advise having a go on the red seat before you eat). There is a dedicated Polar Explorer display upstairs if you’ve not seen it already. Thank Neston again especially the pupils.

Impact and Legacy (PRIZE TIME!) 13:30 – 14:30pm. Let’s look at some of the impact from Year 1. CREST Awards – Dedicated area on the CREST Award website for SUPERSTAR! These are highlighted in the electronic resource booklet. Community Group – Just because you are at the end of the programme doesn’t mean the end of polar exploration. Please continue to share ideas and examples here. 1st – Prize draw for the Lego Ocean Explorer boat!!! Mention the stickers on the side!!! This session is looking at some of the impact the programme has had so far. Don’t worry…we won’t bore with numbers etc…it’s more to see where gains were made and how we can keep the momentum going. Number crunching time (use Ben’s impact presentation) Talk about CREST Superstar awards, and the community group for continued support.

Impact and Legacy Sharing good practice What activities worked well that you can continue with? What successes have you had? How can our polar exploration programme help develop STEM in your school into the future? What would you like to see developed in the future to assist with this? Now we’ve seen the presentation, what can you do to ensure there is a legacy and it’s not just the students that went through the programme that benefit. E.g. Increase in teacher confidence in doing science practical. How can you maintain that momentum and keep up the great work that you undertook. Have discussions on tables and we can feedback later.

Thank You! Once again, a big thank you for everything you have done in your schools with your pupils. We hope you continue the excellent work and we want to provide you with recognition of participating in this. We won’t say ‘Bon Voyage’ as don’t be a stranger, continue to let us know the great work you are doing, and let us help you further… Just a final thank you.
