Management Software -Response Point Administrator is the system configuration Graphical User Interface (GUI). It is installed on an administrative computer. -Response Point Assistant is the end user’s management tool (GUI) installed on the users computer. Installation and configuration is relatively simple for the non-technical user. The Base Unit is able to discover (detect and identify) Response Point phones and Tenor gateways attached to the network. Analog gateways are “plug and play” ready and are installed as a “phone” to the RP system. Digital gateways are installed as a “service” to the RP system and require the use of a configuration wizard for other than T1 ISDN PRI NI2 connections. Response Point handles most PBX functions i.e., call forwarding, hold, call transfer, Forwarding, conferencing, and voicemail to email. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each analog device (maximum 4) Trunk lines (FXO) Insert one end of the RJ11 cable into the first LINE/FXO port (5th RJ11 port). Connect the other end of the same RJ11 cable into the analog trunk port Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each analog trunk (maximum 4). Network Insert one end (RJ45) of the straight-through LAN cable into the connector labeled LAN at the rear of the gateway. Connect the other end of the cable into a local network port (see your network administrator). Power Plug the AC line cord into the AC power adapter. The LINK LED is only lit when the gateway is connected to the network. The ACTIVITY LED flashes to show any activity on the network. What is a T1? Click to continue A T1 is a type of high speed connection that provides a great deal of bandwidth. T1 lines use copper wire (or fiber) and span distances within and between major metropolitan areas. A T1 line can carry 24 digitized voice channels at 64Kbps each, or it can carry data at a rate of 1.544 megabits per second. If the T1 line is being used for phone conversations, it connects into the office's phone system. If it is carrying data it connects into the network's router. A T1 line can carry about 192,000 bytes per second -- roughly 60 times more data than a normal residential modem. It is also extremely reliable -- much more reliable than an analog modem. CAS vs. ISDN Telephony Signaling provides functions such as supervising and advertising line status, alerting devices when a call tries to connect, and routing and addressing information. Two different standards of signaling information are used for transmission over the T1, CAS and ISDN. Each standard uses the 24 available channels (64Kbps each) of a T1 in a different way. CAS CAS or Channel Associated Signaling is a form of digital communication signaling that uses voice channels to transmit the signaling information. From each of the 24 (64Kbps) channels, CAS uses 56Kbps for voice/data and 8Kbps for signaling. CAS Signaling Protocols The most common forms of CAS signaling are: Loopstart - a supervisory signal produced by a telephone or PBX in response to the completion of the loop circuit, i.e., taking the phone “off-hook” . ISDN ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a set of CCITT/ITU standards for digital transmission over ordinary telephone copper wire as well as over other media. There are two levels of service: the Basic Rate Interface (BRI) intended for the home and small enterprise, and the Primary Rate Interface (PRI) for larger users. We shall focus on the PRI. ISDN Signaling Protocols In the US there are a number of ISDN protocols in use. It is important to find out the exact configuration of the lines beforehand. The following protocols are supported by the Quintum Digital Gateway. PRI 5ESS - 5ESS is the class 5 ISDN central office circuit switching system developed by AT&T. PRI 4ESS - 4ESS is the class 4 US AT&T proprietary version of ISDN. PRI DMS - DMS is a digital circuit-switching standard developed by Nortel Networks. PRI NI2 - This is the CCITT National ISDN 2 PRI standard. PRI QSIG - The QSIG protocol provides signaling for Private Integrated services Network Exchange (PINX) devices.
