The Divorce from Britain Chapter 2 – Section 2 The Divorce from Britain

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly King George III took the throne in Great Britain in 1760. He believed in having more control over the American Colonies. He began the Stamp Act in 1765, this didn’t make the Colonists happy! The Boston Tea Party occurred on December 16, 1773.

Enough is Enough! The Colonists held the First Continental Congress in 1774 to discuss their issues with King George III. April 19th, 1775 The Battle of Lexington and Concorde began. On May 10th, 1775 the Second Continental Congress was held to once again discuss issues with Great Britain.

Revolutionary War Begins!

Bye Bye King! Any chance of a compromise ended when the colonies declared independence and formed a new nation, the United States of America on July 4, 1776.
