NLRC-ECHO/DIPECHO Partnership in Southeast Asia Gen R. De Jesus NLRC Country Representative, Philippines

NLRC in Southeast Asia NLRC has been working in Vietnam since 1989 with permanent office since 2003. NLRC will continue working in Vietnam until the middle of 2014. After that NLRC will close its office in Vietnam. In Indonesia, NLRC began working with PMI in 1995 with a permanent office since 2003. We will continue to work with PMI until end of 2015. In 2011, started work with Philippine Red Cross. NLRC has selected Philippines as a Programmatic Partner and is planning for at least a 10-year partnership with PRC.

NLRC in Southeast Asia The main focus of the NLRC in Vietnam is on CBDRM (Community Based Disaster Risk management), Relief and Recovery. In the past there were also project in Water and Sanitation and support to child centers. From 2007-2009 DIPECHO V project with SRC, Community based DP in Vietnam Developed a VCA manual through DIPECHO VI (Enhancing VCAs in Vietnam) support Successes from the DIPECHO VI project further taken forward to a DIPECHO VII project which lead to VNRC being technically self sustainable in VCA Training and management with the set-up of a trainers base and VCA Management systems. Contribute to government CBDRM activities through the DIPECHO VII support

Good Practices Designing programs that builds on successes of previous CBDRM projects Contributing towards government programmes and activities Integration of priorities at the community level to the local government planning process Promote good practices, sharing of lessons learned across different networks.
