“Every student a graduate, every graduate prepared.” Plan 2020 Outcomes Participants will: Discuss effective structures for ensuring that professional learning results in transfer to the classroom. Discuss strategies for communicating CCRS to stakeholders. Read Outcomes Surveys following our last quarterly meeting looked a little different that ones in the past. We changed from getting information about the PD itself to information regarding implementation of the CCRS in districts, schools, and classrooms. The response was great and the information is extremely valuable to us as we plan forward, but even more important, it is valuable to you as you plan for getting the standards effectively implemented in every classroom. “Every student a graduate, every graduate prepared.” Plan 2020

Absolutes   Teach to the standards for each of the required subjects (Alabama College- and Career-Ready Standards - Courses of Study) Through a clearly articulated and locally aligned K-12 curriculum (Sample curricula found on ALEX and Alabama Insight) Supported by aligned resources, support, and professional development (Sample lesson plans and supporting resources found on ALEX, differentiated support through ALSDE Regional Planning/Support Teams and ALSDE Initiatives, etc.) Monitored regularly through formative, interim/benchmark assessments to inform the effectiveness of the instruction and continued learning needs of individuals and groups of students (GlobalScholar, QualityCore Benchmarks, and other locally determined assessments) With a goal that each student graduates from high school with the knowledge and skills to succeed in post-high school education and the workforce without the need for remediation as evidenced by multiple measures achieved through multiple pathways to meet the graduation requirements set for students in Alabama. (Alabama High School Graduation Requirements/Diploma) These absolutes really should guide our message, our professional learning plans, our reflection on implementation. Many of you are using these absolutes to review everything you are doing and ensure that you stay focused. We, too, use them as our guide to keep us from straying from the message – the goal – the vision.

Compelling Concepts Preparation: Read The CCSS and Schoolwide Instructional Changes. Identify the ideas that are most compelling to you—ideas about which you are willing to talk with your colleagues. Note (highlight, underline, etc.) these ideas on your article. Discussion: Discuss your compelling concepts in pairs or small groups. Allow time for conversation about how we support special populations. Some effective practices to consider: Assigning the best teachers to teach student of special populations Providing extended/additional instructional and learning opportunities Implementing effective intervention

Effective Practices to Help Students Meet Standards Data from NCLE’s (National Center for Literacy Education) 2013-2014 survey point to specific practices that teacher teams in the US are using that are making a difference for their ability to help students meet standards. Teachers who engage in these specific collaborative tasks report being better prepared to teach the standards. These three collaborative tasks, along with questions that could guide such work, were most predictive of teachers being prepared to teach the standards More collaboration with colleagues.. More planning time… Aligned assessments… Since Educators across the nation and state are saying loud and clear what they need to successfully implement the standards. So, how can you as school level administrators foster a collaborative culture in your schools that allow teachers to do these things?
