The Young People of Lewisham are voting for the 15th Young Mayor on Wednesday 17th October 2018 Who will be the new young mayor?

Would you like to be Young Mayor? are you.. Someone who wants to make a difference in their community? Someone who wants to listen and give young people a voice ? Someone who will work with others to make things happen? Someone who wants to be a leader ? Running for YOUNG MAYOR can help you do that and more

Mental health awareness events Previous Young Mayors have organised many things using their £25,000 budget like: Mental health awareness events Work experience projects Intergenerational work Skate safe Intergenerational work ‘Come dine with me Talent Shows /workshops Young Peoples Funding pot Serious Youth Violence discussion Help young people set up their own business Started a forum for young people with disabilities Primary school projects Music studio

Life of the Young Mayor Young Advisors: Every Monday 5-7pm.. a team of young people to work with and help you..you will not be on your own! Consultations on changes to services for young people and the wider community organising Sports and showcase events and other projects Trips across Europe To meet other young people Working in their communities Representing young people at civic and important events to show support and solidarity Helping organise events like International Women's Day Meeting with school councils and the Mayor Meetings and discussions with people like the police, the health service, to improve the services for young people in Lewisham.. Contributing to a Serious Youth Violence Conference Working with politicians on projects Intergenerational work Working on issues across London and the UK

How to stand to be the Young Mayor Complete the candidate pack which is available on the Lewisham Council website: YoungMayorCandidatePack2018.pdf Or ask your teacher if they can get one for you after this assembly. You need to be 13- 17 years /live or go to school in Lewisham For your candidate pack you need to get a Signature of your parent/carer, your Headteachers signature and 50 of your friends/peers to sign to support you Start your candidate statement (your ideas!) Drop it or email your completed pack to the Katy or Malcolm at the Young Mayor team by 5pm Friday 14th September 2018

You will have your photo taken for your campaign materials: What happens then? Come to Candidate Training: Saturday 15th September 10am @the Civic Suite in Catford You will have your photo taken for your campaign materials: t-shirts, stickers and fliers and for the statement book which goes to all the schools. You will get help with your statement (what your ideas are)on Saturday too. You will get to talk to previous young mayors and young advisors to find out what its really like.. and meet the Mayor Damien Egan. Then from the Monday you will campaign; talking to other young people about why they should vote for you. You will have help with this from the Young Mayor Team, including organising assemblies in other schools. You only do what you can and want to do so don’t worry about doing everything!

What else to do..talk to your friends get a “campaign team” together who will help you with your campaign Ask other young people what is important to them, what they would like you to do as Young Mayor.. Ask them to vote for you to be Young Mayor on Wednesday 17th October 2018
