Reading Curriculum **Daily reading homework** The Comprehension Toolkit Focuses on “reading as thinking” Builds skills and competence in key thinking strategies for increased comprehension Provides opportunities for students to read in a variety of genres including nonfiction. Fountas & Pinnell Word Study Builds students word knowledge through instruction in phonics, spelling patterns, high frequency word knowledge, vocabulary development, and word-solving actions. Individual reading assessments, conferences, and small group reading. **Daily reading homework** Daily “Four” Four daily literacy rotations Integrate various reading & phonics activities. Participate in lessons on phonics and word attack skills. Participate in lessons on using many reading strategies. CAFÉ Engages all students in daily assessment & instruction in literacy. Comprehension- “I understand what I’m reading.” Accuracy- “I can read the words.” Fluency- “I can read accurately, with expression, and I understand what I read.” Expand Vocabulary- “I find, know, and use interesting words.”
