What is Sea-Tac Doing To Create a Green Curb Airport Ground Transportation Association Conference Introduction of Sea-Tac and Elizabeth/Paul September 21, 2009

Sea-Tac Airport Environmental Strategy – 5 year Plan Process Sea-Tac Airport Environmental Strategy – 5 year Plan Plan is organized into three themes identifying: Key environmental indicators Goals Objectives Performance metrics Actions and strategies Moving People and Goods Efficiently   Air Quality and Climate Change Energy Use and Conservation Buildings and Infrastructure Managing Natural Resources Wisely   Materials Use and Recycling Water Resources and Wildlife Pursue projects that are cost effective with REAL environmental benefit\ -enhances Sea-Tac’s economic competitiveness. -meet dual needs- traffic congestion reduction as we grow from 30-59 MAP, and emission reductions -Working cooperatively with our business partners on projects that make sense. By taking actions that reduce our fossil fuel use, conserve electricity, and integrate “green” design into our facilities are simultaneously improve the environment and our bottom line. - improving efficiency is a fundamental instrument in achieving economic and environmental sustainability As one of the region’s largest employers, Sea-Tac plays an important role in the strength and sustainability of local communities. Promoting Sustainable Communities   Noise Education and Integration

Green Fleets at Sea-Tac: Today Port of Seattle Vehicle Fleet Taxi Fleet: 100% Green 126 Compressed Natural Gas Vehicles 40 Toyota Prius Courtesy Vans 4 CNG Vans – Voluntary Electric Charging Stations Share Ride CNG Vans Rental Car Facility CNG Buses Emission savings: 35% NOx, 90% NO and PM, and 25% CO2 Fuel pricing typically $0.50 less per gasoline gallon equivalent CNG: A Dichotomy fleet policy (EX17) - alternative fuels must be used and right sizing of vehicles anti-idling policy. taxi fleet is one – if not the most – green airport taxi fleet in the US. The Port worked with STITA to promote and use CNG, utilize electronic dispatch, and to help look at ways to reduce taxi-deadheading (may want to explain our efforts). In doing so the Taxi companies can save as much as $1 per GGE 6 electric charging stations in the airport garage for pax use. RCF- nearly 80 percent of the rental car pax will be 1.5 miles closer Consolidated CNG fueled high-occupancy bus. This means a significant reduction in air emissions and decongestion of the airport drive. Recognize the difficult issues include no OEM manufacturing of light duty vehicles (except for the Honda GX Civic), few fueling stations; But the good include: lower air emissions, less volatility in pricing, better pricing as compared to fossil fuels, it is a strategic fuel.

Outbound Trip Breakdown On-Demand Taxis: 28% Share Ride: 9% Airporters: 7% Prearranged Limos: 6% On-Demand Limos: 3% Charters/Other: 1% Courtesy Vans: 46% Rental Cars 19%/Off-Site Parking 40%/Hotels 41%

Environmental Goals for Courtesy Van Consolidation Based on Phase I DSS study for hotel shuttle consolidation. This shows goal of decreasing VMT and emissions even with pax and terminal growth. The yellow bars are projected growth. Blue line is VMT reduction (500K to 280K), Green line is tons CO2 reduction (3100 to 1400).

Future Green Initiatives Service Providers Hotel Trip Reduction Program Transition all GT to green fleets Port Specific: 5% Mode Shift 30% increase in Port Fleet Efficiency by 2015 Partnerships: Clean Cities Coalition Evergreen Fleets Initiative Other Airport Projects: Alternative Aviation Fuels, electric Ground Support Equipment The climate is changing not only for the natural environment, but for how we are operating our business Hotel Shuttle Consolidation: goal is to transition area hotels from running their own shuttle to a independent provider who oversees all pax to and from the hotel. 460 trips per day other providers. We have helped parking lot providers with grant money to use CNG. One of the strategy plan goals is to increase the Port fleet efficiency by 30 percent from 2006 to 2015. The Port participates as steering committee members for ; The Clean Cities Coalition: a voluntary, public/private partnership that works to advance the region's environmental and public health, energy security and economic development by promoting policies and practices that reduce petroleum consumption in transportation. The Coalition's initiatives focus on: alternative fuels and vehicles, fuel blends, fuel economy, hybrid electric vehicles, and idle reduction Evergreen Fleets Initiative: Evergreen Fleets is a collaborative effort between local fleet managers, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and the Puget Sound Clean Cities Coalition to help develop innovative fleet standards for the betterment of our environment. Think of it as a LEED standards agency for fleets. Alt Av Fuel; eGSE;
