Introduction AECOM is producing a Freight Strategy for the WestTrans region that aims to satisfy the following objectives: Improving Road Safety Improving Air Quality Reducing Congestion Increasing Business Efficiency Supporting Economic Growth Identifying Energy Efficiency Opportunities

Introduction

Improving Road Safety There were 631 reported accidents involving freight vehicles in WestTrans in 2014 and these resulted in 800 casualties There were 4 fatalities involving freight vehicles Killed and Seriously Injured casualties are 6.6% of total casualties STATS19

Increasing Business Efficiency There are 1,180 licensed freight operators in WestTrans operating 6,355 HGVs 79% of operators have between 1 and 5 vehicles in their fleet Just 9 operators have more than 100 freight vehicles in their fleet but these have 24% of all vehicles licensed in WestTrans Office of Traffic Commissioner

Summary WestTrans is a thriving area with much freight activity There are some nationally significant freight hubs KSI have come down in recent years but still occur 79% of operators have < 6 vehicles Numbers of vans increasing as HGVs are decreasing More freight jobs than average in 4 of 6 Boroughs The majority of the area is in AQMAs Take up of alternative fuelled vehicles is still low There is scope for some modal switch There are issues to be tackled but you tell us!
