Mid Ross Community Partnership Dingwall Locality Plan Engaging the Community

Our Purpose Tonight First step on the road to a Locality Plan for Dingwall Locality Plans are about strengthening communities and reducing inequalities Bottom up approach - the community’s priorities for doing this We need to get better at community engagement Starting by looking at how we involve the people of Dingwall in producing the Locality Plan

How Did We Get Here? Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 Commission on Highland Democracy

What Change Required? Inequalities have huge personal, societal cost Improve outcomes: Target inequality Focus on Prevention Community Involvement in Decision Making Strengthen communities: Ownership of assets New rights – participation requests

What The Act Requires Key public agencies share responsibility for achieving better outcomes from collective resources Focus on reducing inequalities, prevention, partnership Meaningful community participation in decisions – community planning, participation requests Strengthen communities – ownership of assets, right to buy land,

Where Does Locality Plan Fit In? Each of the 9 CPs Listen to what people want to change in their community across the community wellbeing outcomes Share with communities information about outcomes within the area, across Highland and Scotland – Area Profiles Produce Locality Plans for those areas where there is most opportunity to improve outcomes

Why Not Just Get On With It? We Need to Get Better: Hard for some people to get involved Too much consultation about the wrong things What difference does it make? No new resources – best value from existing Some of us are new to it Want to improve engagement for the long term, not just the latest priority

DIALOGUE BY DESIGN What methods: Resources – time, money, people might exclude some people deliver and obtain information discover opinions build relationships Promote understanding and debate Resources – time, money, people What will be happening anyway
