Strategies for multiplying and dividing by 7 and 9 Unit of Study: Multiplication / Division Facts and Strategies Global Concept Guide: 3 of 4
Content Development Approximately 2 days should be spent on students furthering their understanding of the Distributive Property using the factors 7 and 9. Students can solve problems using a variety of strategies but should focus on using the Distributive Property. Example:
Day 1 and Day 2 The focus of Day 1 and Day 2 is students using the Distributive Property to solve multiplication problems with factors of 7 and 9. Example: Students should build arrays and record their models and equations in their journals. (Tip: Have students build on top of journal so they can carry up to front of room to share with class).
Enrich/Reteach/Intervention If students are struggling with decomposing numbers give them tools and have them model all the different addends. For Enrich students, use p. 187B. Students are finding the amount of time they do something over a weeks time.
