First things first Already have a Pearson account? Then you already have access. If not, create an account. New students will also have to create an account. To begin, everybody has to have a Pearson account.

Instructors have to obtain an access code Instructors have to obtain an access code. This will take a few days as Pearson will verify that you are an instructor at your school. Pearson will verify that you are actually and instructor at your school.

Students will need this Students will need a course ID in order to register. The Course ID is created when the instructor sets up the course. Don’t wait until the last minute to do this. Students will need this

For this demo we’ll create a course Name the course and enter the dates. The system will create the course and send you an e- mail with the course ID. Included in the e-mail is a handout that explains how students get enrolled the class. Watch out for the enrollment date; students will not be able to enroll after that date.

Back to this page (creating a student account) Students should use an e-mail address that they actually use every day. The course ID should be included on your syllabus. The “Access Code” comes as a folder packaged with the book.

Student enrollment is a two step process Student has to create a Pearson account, using the course ID for verification. This does NOT enroll the student in the class. After the account is created the student will log in and then click the “Enroll in a Class” button, upper right corner. THEN the student will show up on the class roster.

Progress report… We have created an account. Students have created an account. A new course has been created. Students are enrolling in the class (We hope; in reality, they always need help with this for the first week or so.) Let’s create some assignments for the class.

The students sees the same thing, except that the menu items with the “seat-belted person” are not shown to the students. To create and assignment click “Instructor Tools”. Create chapter homework If you normally assign the end-of-chapter quiz questions, this is for you.

Create chapter homework Click “Create Assignment”. Then click “Create Homework”.

Create chapter homework Give the homework a name. Click “Next”.

Select the ASE area then select the Chapter number. Select “Show additional test bank questions” to use questions from the test bank.

Test bank features The first 10 questions in the test bank are the same as the end-of-chapter quiz questions. The rest of the test bank questions are additional questions for that chapter.

Select the first 10 questions and click “Add”. The questions are added to the right hand panel. Click “Next”.

Select settings for the homework When to make it available. Due date. Click “Save and Assign”.

Assignment appears on the list Listed with a due date, if applied. Creates an entry in the gradebook. Students complete the chapter quiz on-line, no paper or grading required. (Yaaaaaay!)

Building a test For mid-terms, finals, or other fun things

Building a test Under “Instructor Tools” go to “Assignment Manager”. Select “Create Test”. Process is similar to creating a homework assignment.

Building a test Select the ASE area and the chapters to be used. If test bank questions are to be used (recommended), select “Show additional test bank questions”.

Building a test Check the questions to be used in the test. Click the “Add” button to add the questions to the test.

Building a test Can also click any question to get this window. Allows a preview of the question and answer. Questions can be added to the test from this screen. Allows editing of the question.

Here, we have selected 5 questions from each of 3 chapters. Click “View Student Test” to see what the test looks like.

Click “Next” to finish the test setup.

Select desired options and then click “Save and Assign”.

Custom questions creating your own questions
