Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates How To Use These Slides We have provided these slides, and the raw data behind them, so that others can use them in their own work. You may reuse all, or a part of, this slide deck as long as you provide a clear reference to the source. The suggested reference is: 2016 Agile at Scale Survey posted at Ambysoft.com/surveys/agileAtScale2016.html Some slides have notes Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates

Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates About the Survey Ran from October 28 to November 12 2016 under the title “November 2016 Agile State of the Union Survey” Survey link included in: www.ambysoft.com/surveys/ page Posting to Agile and Lean; Disciplined Agile discussion groups on LinkedIn Twitter postings via @scottwambler Data, summary, and slides downloadable from www.ambysoft.com/surveys/ 190 respondents Many questions included an “I don’t know” or N/A option. When processing the data from those questions, we have excluded those answers from the analysis. A bit disappointed with only 54 responses. It is very difficult to get people to fill out a survey that is focused on data issues. Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates

Interesting Findings from the 2016 Agile at Scale Survey Not all agile teams are small Roughly half (48%) of agile teams are more than 10 people in size Few agile teams are co-located 71% of agile teams are geographically distributed in some manner Few agile teams are truly whole 96% of agile delivery teams must collaborate with one or more teams that are external to them Agile teams rarely get the simple problems Only 22% of agile teams are taking on a straightforward problem domain or are pilot teams Most agile teams work in a compliance environment 2/3 of agile teams face either regulatory compliance (i.e. PCI, FDA) or organizational compliance (i.e. CMMI, ISO 900x) Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates

How Geographically Distributed Are Agile Team Members? Note: People could choose more than one option Near located was calculated by removing anyone who answered that they had team members who were very distant, working from home, working in cubicles or offices, or were within driving distance Note: Only 29% of agile teams are “near located” – everyone working in a co-located or an open space Source: Ambysoft.com/surveys/agileAtScale2016.html Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates

Agile Teams and Compliance Regulatory Compliance (62%) i.e. PCI, FDA, BASEL II Organizational Compliance (20%) i.e. CMMI, ISO 900x 67% of agile delivery teams face either regulatory or organizational compliance Source: Ambysoft.com/surveys/agileAtScale2016.html Copyright 2017 Scott Ambler + Associates
