The Voyages of Columbus: Christopher Columbus sets out to find a new trade route to Asia. He thought he had reached the West Indies and called the natives he met “los indios” He was really on an island in the Bahamas in the Caribbean.

Amerigo Vespucci landed on the east coast of South America. He reported back to Portugal and told them that it was not a part of Asia but a “new” world. In 1507, a German mapmaker named the new continent “America” in honor of Amerigo Vespucci
