Icebreaker: Four Corner Thinking Students stand in a line. Leader designates four corners of the room as “strongly agree,” “agree,” “disagree,” and “strongly disagree.” Leader reads a statement. Students move to the corner that represents their position. Examples: I enjoy eating pizza. I enjoy eating vegetables. I like playing sports. School is a fun place to be.

Learning Target and Agenda I can identify two goals and two ways to motivate myself to achieve those goals. Agenda: Discuss intrinsic and extrinsic motivation Video Motivational Tips Activity: Posters Exit Slip

Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation Intrinsic motivation is when you have an internal reason to do something Being proud of yourself Feeling healthier or better Feeling smarter or accomplished Extrinsic Motivation Money New clothes, other purchases Making someone else happy

motivations Which type of motivation works better? Why? Inspirational Movie Quotes

Motivational tips: Decide what you want. Set a goal decide how you are going to go about it. Then break it down into smaller sections so it's easier to tackle and less overwhelming. Keep track of your progress. Keep a log or journal where you chart your progress. Looking at it can inspire you to keep pushing ahead. Post motivating pictures or slogans on your fridge or elsewhere. It is always uplifting to see pictures of people who have accomplished what you're striving for. It makes it attainable and realistic.

Motivational Tips, Continued Remind yourself why you want this and focus on the end result. Visualize the end result and 'feel' how gratified and triumphant you will be when you've achieved your goal. Make it a habit. Once it becomes a habit, it will be second nature to you and you won't have to think about it anymore. That means you won't be procrastinating, avoiding, or trying to build up motivation to do it yet again.

Setting goals and motivations ShaRe with a Partner… What are two goals you have? What are two steps for each goal you can take to accomplish them? How will you motivate yourself?

Activity: Poster Make a motivational poster to put in your locker to motivate you to reach your goals. Use quotes and pictures so that you have visuals to remind you to keep reaching for your goals.

Exit Slip What are three things you can do TODAY to start reaching for your goals?
