Outline Why was Intercultural Awareness Week organised? Managing International Students’ Expectations at Aston

Intercultural Awareness Week: Purpose 11th – 14th and 22nd May 2009 showcasing good practice in intercultural awareness across the University raising intercultural awareness among students and staff reflecting on current practice producing a draft strategy

Intercultural Awareness Week: Achievements Intercultural Awareness Strategy ‘Standards of our services for our Home and International students are of a high quality… . Our aims however, are towards being regarded as a centre of excellence.’ Professor Helen Higson We have been shortlisted for The Times Higher Education Awards 2009 for Outstanding Student Support of International Students. Managing International Students’ Expectations identify the expectations of International Students when they come to study at Aston – 20% of students come from outside the EU provide students and staff with intercultural awareness sessions/training

Identifying International Students’ Expectations Surveys & Focus Groups – from the point of admissions to international alumni ‘I was delighted with the amount of interest participants took in our presentation and with their positive engagement with the presenters and want to encourage the University administration to build on it for the future.’ Vikum Rajapaske (student) Develop information resources for both students and staff
