The GEO Vision for ENERgy Initiative GEO VENER: The GEO Vision for ENERgy Initiative Thierry Ranchin thierry.ranchin[at]mines-paristech.fr

New Societal Benefit Areas The absence of a stand-alone climate SBA in the GEO decade 2016-2025 is a testament to the overarching importance of climate and its relevance to all SBAs.

GEO-VENER : Initial thoughts No specific EO system or program dedicated to Renewable Energy (RE) exists BUT the RE domain is using EO data and systems dedicated to other domains EO data and informations dedicated to RE exist Lot of interesting data are available through Copernicus and GEOSS Interest of professionnals for solutions to their questions Not a lot of understanding of the potential of EO for RE Not a lot of awareness Not a lot of confidence Bankability ? From users of European Climatic Energy Mixes C3S project

BOTTOM UP and TOP-DOWN Approaches GEO Vision for Energy Objectives Support the development of Earth observation products and services for energy management Consider information to support end-to-end energy production systems (including planning, generation, transmission, distribution and integrated operations) Promote collaboration between users and providers of Earth observation and information Encourage the use of Earth observation and information for informed renewable energy policy planning in developing and developed countries BOTTOM UP and TOP-DOWN Approaches
