The earlier you know, the better you can plan… Financial Aid Preview The earlier you know, the better you can plan…

FAFSA FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid It will show if you qualify for Federal Aid, such as Pell Grants or Stafford Loans. All US citizens will fill out this form. If you are not a US citizen, you may need to fill this out on a paper version for out of state schools and some in-state private schools. The FAFSA determines your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) https://fafsa.ed.gov/ FAFSA

If you are not a U.S. citizen, but you are a Texas Resident (including undocumented students), you will fill out the TAFSA for Texas public colleges and universities. http://www.finaid.txstate.edu/more- info/TASFA.html TAFSA

Most schools are asking for verification of your parents tax information via a tax transcript. You can go ahead and request them NOW because they take six to eight weeks to come in. Make this summer homework and check it off your list. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get- transcript If your parents didn’t file (ugh!), check off verification of non-filing. Tax Transcripts

The three main types of financial aid are Scholarships, Grants and Loans. Let’s explore these further at Angelo State’s website: http://www.angelo.edu/services/financial_ aid/ Work-study is also an option. Let’s check it out: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/types/work- study#what-kinds-of-jobs Types of Financial Aid

CSS Profile stands for the College Scholarship Service Profile. It is used by many private college to award their aid (beyond the Federal aid). https://student.collegeboard.org/css- financial-aid-profile CSS Profile

Gentlemen, within 30 days of your 18th birthday, you need to register for the Selective Service (basically, IF we get into a big war and need to bring back the draft, this is how they find you—sorry.) You need to be in compliance to get Federal aid. https://www.sss.gov/Home/Registration Selective Service
