Cells and Their Organelles Form and Function Within the Cell Walls

Plant Cell

Animal Cell Structure

CELL MEMBRANE Semi-Permeable to control enter and exit of materials from cell.

Cell Wall Provides shape and strength to a plant cell

NUCLEUS Control centre of cell.

CHROMOSOMES Genetic material in nucleus.

VACUOLE Stores water and ions.

MITOCHONDRION “Powerhouse" of the cell (produces ATP).

CHLOROPLAST Site of photosynthesis.

ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM Transport system inside cell.

GOLGI BODY Packages proteins into vesicles.

CYTOSKELETON Internal support system for cell.

LYSOSOME Produces enzymes to destroy bacteria.

FLAGELLUM Long tail-like structure for cell locomotion.

AMYLOPLAST Stores starch in plant cell.

CENTRIOLE Produces spindle fibres for mitosis.

NUCLEOLUS Produces ribosomes.

QUICK RECAP VACUOLE = stores water, ions. and waste materials. LYSOSOME = produces enzymes to destroy bacteria. Breaks down food particles. RIBOSOME = produces proteins. CYTOSKELETON = internal support system for cell. Acts as a framework GOLGI BODY = packages proteins into vesicles. ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM = transport system inside cell. ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM: Has ribosome on its surface and produces proteins SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM: Does not have ribosomes on its surface and produces lipids NUCLEUS = control centre of cell. FLAGELLUM = long tail-like structure for cell locomotion. MITOCHONDRION = "powerhouse" of the cell (produces ATP). CHLOROPLAST = site of photosynthesis. AMYLOPLAST = stores starch in plant cell. CENTRIOLE = produces spindle fibres for mitosis. CYTOPLASM = supports all cell organelles. CELL MEMBRANE = semi-permeable to control enter and exit of materials. NUCLEOLUS = produces ribosomes. CHROMOSOMES = genetic material in nucleus.
