Curriculum Math-we use everyday math. it spirals so concepts are mastered but then they are reviewed throughout the year. It requires that students are able to explain why they came to the answer they did and uses real world math examples. We teach various methods in order for students to become more well rounded mathematicians. Science-we use the district science curriculum. Third grade studies life science, physical science and earth science. They also attend the Ridgecrest science laboratory where science concepts are solidified through hands-on learning. Projects are also included and assigned to enrich science learning. Language arts-We use a combination of novel studies, district and gifted language arts standards. We use project based learning and infuse the lessons with creativity and critical thinking. We teach the structure of language in order to empower students to become better communicators.
Enrichment Third grade will have two tracks of enrichment. Students who are interested in a deeper level of Spanish instruction should take the Spanish track where they will receive one hour of Spanish instruction daily. The Spanish track will also include projects, coding and other activities that the students in the other track will be exposed to with Spanish instruction. Students who do not want to take that track have the choice of genius hour where they will receive different enriching activities that will change each marking period. Enrichment opportunities could include stem activities, coding, and other activities to be determined by the teachers.
Spanish Spanish expectations for the grade level will be in place for the students that choose the Spanish track. Spanish progress reports will be sent home in the 2nd and 4th report cards showing what individual students have mastered. We will be using a research based curriculum to learn conversational Spanish that will include speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.
