What epilepsy is? World’s most serious brain disorder Tendency to recurring seizures Seizures are all different Everybody’s epilepsy is different Recurring seizures that are unprovoked. Everybody’s epilepsy is different Seizures can look very different Some seizures are easy to control with medication. Other people have more frequent seizures that are hard to control. What happens in a seizure? Sudden uncontrolled electrical activity causes disturbance in the brain – Strange sensations in the body Uncharacteristic behaviour – wandering, confusion Blank stare and unresponsive Convulsions and spasms Loss of consciousness The person may not be able to hear you, might say funny things, won’t respond, won’t remember what they’ve done, and sometimes after the seizure they will be very tired.
