Project Summary At the start: Already disassembled to only chassis, lights and tires Several components were already picked out (e.g. BMS, contactors, motor controllers) Progression Designed an electrical system that replaces existing system Determined components that will fulfill the needs of the system and client Tested system-level components individually Assembled most of the low voltage system and some of the high voltage system Documented component list, testing procedures, future plans for improvements CoE team has worked with the data acquisition system Patrick has constructed the battery boxes, framing for motor controllers and plenty of other assembly.
Accomplishments 2 out of 3 battery boxes constructed Isolated testing of 1 battery box (40V) DC-DC converter USB power adapters Lighting system (headlights and front turn signal lights) BMS Motor Controllers System wiring for most of the system (mentioned above) including the fuse box DAQ from BMS to Arduino
Current System Design
Challenges Faced Technical challenges Bypassing pre-charge resistor electrically Fabricated relay circuit was not properly working Management challenges Broken or missing components Delayed assembly time
Unfinished Tasks Isolated testing and integrating of Water pump All 3 battery boxes Construction of last battery box DAQ from motor controllers to Arduino Integrating relay circuit to close main contactor
Future Plans for Improvements Replace mechanical secondary switch with a relay or alternative method to electrically maintain high voltage for DC-DC converter Framing specifications Replacement of 2 motor controllers for a single one Addition of sensors for other features such as weight balancing
