THE SKELETAL SYSTEM The skeletal system provides very important functions for your body, such as protection, movement, blood cell production/formation and more.

The functions of the skeletal system The main functions of the skeletal system are movement, blood cell production/formation,protection and giving your body shape(holding your body together) The skeletal system makes it possible for you to move your body when muscles pull on your bones, this is when the muscular system and the skeletal system work together. Blood cells are produced in the marrow of some bones. Your skull protects your brain while your sternum, ribs, and spine protect your heart, lungs and other vital organs.

The parts of the skeletal system There are many bones that play an important part in the skeletal system, but the major bones that play a significant part in the skeletal system are your skull, your, ribs, and your spine. Your skull is the bone that protects your brain. Your ribs protect your organs, and your spine is what connects parts of our skeleton to each other and keeps us upright. Fun Facts1 1) More than half of your bones are in your hands and feet. 2) The hyoid bone is the only bone not connected another bone. 3) We don’t directly control our bones, our muscles do. 4) Babies have more bones than adults, babies have about 300 (mixed with cartilage) while adults have 206 bones.
