Leviticus 1-10 Sacrifices & Offerings

Atonement The word “atonement” appears in Leviticus 43 times. Look up ATONEMENT in the Bible Dictionary. Read it and mark some important things.

The Tabernacle Practices: Offering Animal Sacrifices

SINS, SACRIFICES, AND OFFERINGS 1 - Presentation of the animal (Leviticus 1:1-3) According to vs 3, how is it offered? According to vs 3, where is it offered? When did this happen for Christ? 2 - Laying on of hands, transferring sins to the animal (Lev 1:4-5) East of the altar, symbolic of _______________________) 3 - Slaughtering of the animal (Leviticus 1:9-11) on the north end of the altar, symbolic of ____________________). Who kills the animal? According to verse 9, how much of the animal is burned on the altar? 4 - Burning of the sacrifice, followed by a meal (Leviticus 1:12-13) When did this happen for Christ? (hint: it also happens for us) 5 - Sprinkling of blood (Leviticus 1:15) Gethsemane Calvary THE SACRAMENT

An Atonement for Sin “It must have been a moving experience for Jesus when as a boy he was able to go to the temple and see hundreds of sacrifices taking place at Passover—all of which in reality were representing him!” Bruce R. McConkie Mortal Messiah, 1:374

Leviticus 8:30 Leviticus 9:23–24 They then were to remain inside the walls of the courtyard for seven days to complete their consecration D&C 88:74-75 “…yea, purify your hearts, and cleanse your hands and your feet before me, that I may make you clean; That I may testify unto your Father, and your God, and my God, that you are clean from the blood of this wicked generation…” Leviticus 9:23–24

The Sacrament How might the way Aaronic Priesthood holders prepare, administer, and pass the sacrament affect your experience with this ordinance? They then were to remain inside the walls of the courtyard for seven days to complete their consecration

Sacrifice and Sacrament Do you see the connection between our sacrifice and the sacrament and the Savior?

Elder Ballard “After the Savior’s ultimate sacrifice, the ordinance of the sacrament replaced the ordinance of sacrifice. … This change moved the focus of the sacrifice from a person’s animal to the person himself. In a sense, the sacrifice changed from the offering to the offerer. … “… Instead of the Lord requiring our animals or grain, now He wants us to give up all that is ungodly. … “Elder Neal A. Maxwell said: ‘Real, personal sacrifice never was placing an animal on the altar. Instead, it is a willingness to put the animal in us upon the altar and letting it be consumed!’ (‘DenyYourselves of All Ungodliness,’ Ensign, May1995, 68).

Writing time Write a paragraph describing the Sacrifice and Atonement of Jesus Christ and what it means to you, based on what you’ve learned from Leviticus.

Leviticus 10: Forbidden Leviticus 10:1-7 Leviticus 10:8-20 What happened to Nadab and Abihu because they misused the law of sacrifice? Leviticus 10:8-20 How does the Lord expect you to be different? What happens to priesthood holders who misuse the priesthood today?

At All Times… “The priesthood should be a part of you at all times and in all circumstances. It is not like a cloak that you can put on and take off at will. The words you speak and your everyday behavior affect your ability to serve. Your behavior in public must be above reproach. Your behavior in private is even more important” True to the Faith “The purpose of priesthood authority is to give, to serve, to lift, to inspire” Elder Richard G. Scott
