TSUNAMI -

Natural Calamities Some of them are :- TSUNAMI DROUGHTS EARTHQUAKES

Human Beings have no control over them. Natural Calamities Sudden and Unexpected. Human Beings have no control over them.

TSUNAMI What happens when there is a tsunami? There is water flowing all around. Walls of buildings get cracks. Building collapses.

TSUNAMI WATER FLOWING ALL AROUND

Due to Strong flow of Water WALLS OF BUILDINGS GET CRACKS

TSUNAMI BUILDINGS COLLAPSE

TSUNAMI

What causes TSUNAMI? Tsunami is caused by the earthquakes which occurs underwater. Pressure variation in the air leads to sea storms (typhoons) in coastal areas – causes flood in coastal areas.

Very heavy rainfall - Overflow of rivers

Collapse of some parts of dams on rivers

Pressure variation in the air leads to sea storms (typhoons) in coastal areas – causes flood in coastal areas.

Disadvantages of Floods Flood upsets normal life of people. Extensive loss of life and property. Water logging for several days. Unhygienic conditions. Spread of water borne diseases.

Flood upsets normal life of people.

Extensive loss of life and property.

Water logging for several days.

Spread of water borne diseases. Unhygienic conditions. Spread of water borne diseases.

Advantages of flood Soil carried by the flood water are spread in the plains. This soil makes the land more fertile.

Soil carried by flood waters are spread in the plain.

How can we reduce the effect of floods ? Provide information on time about the danger of flood. Construct temporary dams to divert the water flow. Shift people to safer places. Make arrangement for food ,shelter and medicine. Drink boiled water.

Shift people to safer places. Make arrangement for food ,shelter and medicine.

Drink boiled water

How can we control floods ? Plant more trees – roots of trees slow down the speed of water. Check dams – slow down the speed of water currents.

Check dams.

Rock Check dam
