Welcome… Purpose: Review Academic Standing Policies and Academic Standing Override Process in Banner Audience: Faculty Advisors Instructional Time: 7-10 minutes Assumptions: General navigation knowledge of Banner

Students on Warning Effective 201010, a student on Academic Warning is not prevented from registration. However, the student should meet with his/her academic advisor to discuss the various ways to improve his/her academic standing.

Students on Probation If the minimum term GPA is not achieved at the end of a Warning term, the student will be placed on Probation for the following term and a registration hold applied for that term. If the student registered during the early advising period for the term he/she has been placed on Probation, the student will be encouraged to meet with the academic advisor to determine whether any schedule adjustments are needed. If the student did not register early, he/she must meet with an advisor prior to registering. The advisor will discuss with the student his/ her academic progress.

Students on Suspension If the minimum term GPA is not achieved at the end of a Probation term, the student will be placed on Suspension and not allowed to register for the following term. During the registration period for the term following the Suspension term, the student must meet with a counselor in the Student Life and Development Office to discuss his/her academic progress and to identify appropriate actions to improve performance. The counselor will complete the Registration Approval Form and require the student to submit it to his/her faculty advisor. The student will submit the completed form to Student Records where staff will override the academic standing allowing the student to register for courses. Students who have completed one term’s absence on Suspension will continue to be identified as on Suspension status on the term in which they return.

Students on Second Warning If the minimum term GPA is not achieved at the end of a Suspension status term, the student will be placed on Second Warning for the following term. Effective 201010, a student on Second Warning is not prevented from registration. However, the student should meet with his/her academic advisor to discuss the various ways to improve his/her academic standing.

Students on Second Probation If the minimum term GPA requirement has not been achieved at the end of the Second Warning term, the student will be placed on Second Probation. The registration hold on the student’s record will remain in effect. The student must meet with his/her faculty advisor, who will discuss the appropriate factors affecting academic performance.

Students on Second Suspension If the minimum term GPA requirement has not been achieved at the end of the Second Probation term, the student will be placed on Second Suspension. The student will not be allowed to register again without approval of the Academic Appeals Committee.

Discussion Points for Advisors… Availability of career counseling/tutoring services Benefits of reduced academic load Need for developmental courses Special needs services Enrollment in COL 101 or COL 103 Time management/study skills Class attendance and completing assignments Minimum GPA for good standing and graduation Effect on cumulative GPA of repeating courses

Override Process in Banner Access the Academic form via INB or eTC.

Override Process in Banner Key in the Term and T#. Press <NEXT BLOCK>. If a student has a registration hold on their account, key a “Y” Select the Student Term tab

Override Process in Banner Key “GS” in the Academic Standing field. Press <SAVE>. Exit this tab by pressing the “X” on the menu bar. Exit the form by pressing “X” again.

Remember… Academic standing overrides are keyed by using the ACADEMIC quickflow in Banner. Simply type ACADEMIC in the Direct Access field. The first time you access the ACADEMIC quickflow, the SOADEST form will appear – press the “X” or CTRL Q to exit SOADEST. SOADEST will appear each time log into Banner. P1 and P2 academic standings overrides may be keyed in Banner. S1 and S2 overrides require the “Registration Approval” form with appropriate signatures. Effective 201010, W1 and W2 no longer require approval for registration. If a student has a registration hold, a “Y” must be keyed in the “HOLDS” field (top right corner of 1st form) in order complete the override. If a student has to be readmitted prior to keying the override, please send him/her to Admissions first. The override will need to be subsequently keyed.
