What do these pictures have in common?

Government: the system of people, laws, and officials that define and control the country, state, and community you live in

Think and Discuss Thoughts & Questions: Why do we need and have rules and laws? Who are the elected officials of the executive branch of government? Where do they work? What is the function of the executive branch in relation to laws?

Government Positions: Executive Branch President- leader of our nation Governor- leader of our state Mayor- leader of a city

President of the United States: The president is in charge of the United States and enforces our country’s laws. He is the leader of our nation. He is also the leader of our Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. He lives and works White House located in Washington, D.C.

Governor of Georgia: Nathan Deal is the governor (leader) of the state of Georgia. The governor listens to advice from the General Assembly. He is the leader of the State National Guard. The governor works in Georgia’s Capitol Building in Atlanta, Ga.

The Mayor A mayor is the leader of the city. Takes advice from City Council. Signs and enforces rules and laws for a city and community. The mayor will make changes in a town to help the community. The mayor works at the local city hall.

Think about it Which of the following positions would you like to hold: President of the United States, Governor of Georgia, or the Mayor of our town. Explain why you chose the position you did. Which is the most powerful?
