Presentation transcript:

Teacher: Observer: Details (date, school, class): Lesson observation focusing on the development of mathematical knowledge The purpose of this resource is to support a post-lesson discussion that focuses on the mathematical story within the lesson and the progression of pupil understanding. What is the key mathematical idea in the lesson? How is this made apparent? How does the design of the lesson lead to clear progression of mathematical understanding? How is pupils’ mathematical understanding developed and challenged? How is mathematical language used to support progression? Other things noticed: Where next? Targets for professional development

Further Notes You might choose to record the maths ‘moments’ as they happen through the lesson or, possibly, useful theories/academic literature/evidence-based research that could help make sense of the things you have recorded
