Alzheimer’s disease One major mental/physical degeneration in old age is Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is an organic condition that results in the progressive deterioration of brain cells. It is slow but steady and usually progress for 8-10 years from first symptoms to death. Early symptoms are inability to remember current events, people and places. Eventually the person become unable to perform basic tasks alone such as eating, going to the bathroom, speaking and movement.
Not everything is bad! Many older adults live independent fulfilling lives. Much of it is taking care of their bodies and minds. Staying physically active and healthy is a great way to prolong any affects of major diseases.
Assignment On a piece of paper write: 17-39 40-59 60-74 75+ For each age range list 5 goals you wish to achieve during that time period. Then write a brief statement of how you plan to achieve the goals of each age range. (each age range should have a statement that includes each goal!)
