Facebook? Myspace? Twitter? We asked 50 people to rank Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter according to their personal preference. Then we asked how many hours a day were spent on each. Here are our results…

Popularity!

Our findings… According to the pie chart, the majority of college students prefer Facebook over Myspace, and Myspace over Twitter. We asked why, and the most popular response was, most of my friends use facebook.

Hours a day wasted *ahem* spent on social networking sites…

Our findings Part II On average, we found that most people spend 2-5 hours on facebook, hardly anybody spends any time on twitter, and a handful of people spend less than 1 hour on myspace. We asked, what could you be doing with your time instead being on these websites, and most students responded, “…studying, laundry, being productive…”

Facebook Statistics Facebook now takes over 5 percent of our collective internet time. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg while he was attending Harvard 85% of the students in colleges have a Facebook account, with 60% of them logging in daily It has become more popular than beer and the Ipod….Are you serious???? Facebook now reports over 8.3 million registered users and ranks as the 7th most popular US website.

Myspace Statistics Chris DeWolf and the famous Tom are the founders of Myspace. It was created in 2003. From 2005-2006, user profiles jumped from 2 million to 80 million. For example, while MySpace still has more users in the U.S than Facebook (almost twice as many visitors), Facebook surpassed MySpace internationally (116.4 million vs. MySpace’s 115.7 million)

Twitter “Tweet Tweet” Twitter was founded in August of 2006 The tipping point for Twitter’s popularity was in 2007 because of the South by Southwest festival. It went from 20,000 to 60,000 tweets a day. Twitter is now used to track down your favorite celebrities

Other Networking Sites Even though facebook, myspace and twitter are the most popular networking sites there are still others out there… For instance, LinkedIn, Xanga, Friendster, Hi5, and more. LinkedIn is a website for colleagues. Xanga is an online journal website. Friendster and Hi5 are like facebook and Myspace.

Our favorites Our favorite social networking site is Facebook! Jessica spends 2-3 hours a day on facebook a day. And weekly checks her myspace. Elizabeth spends 3-5 hours on facebook a day. Bianca spends 1 hour a day. Bianca and Jessica both have twitters but rarely use them.
