International Varieties Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 International Varieties International mostly means ( language ) that involves more than one country

There are some mistakes that is based on regional accent differences : Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 There are some mistakes that is based on regional accent differences : Example : New Zealander British dad dead bed bad

Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 Most people are aware of the different Pronunciation , Vocabulary and Grammatical differences between English dialect . sometimes the differences between dialects are a matter of the frequencies with which particular features occur , rather than completely different ways of saying things .

Intra-national or intra- continental variation Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 Intra-national or intra- continental variation Dialectologists can distinguish regional varieties for almost every English county. Different towns and even parts of towns can be distinguished .For example, the Eastern States can be distinguished and within those the Boston dialect is different from that of New York City.

Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 The high level of intra- national communication, together with the relatively small populations, may have inhibited the development of marked regional differences in these countries.

Cross-continental Variation: dialect chains Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 Cross-continental Variation: dialect chains A range of dialects spoken across some geographical area that differ only slightly between neighboring areas.

Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 For example: The varieties of French spoken in the border towns and villages of Italy, Spain and Switzerland have more in common with the language of the next village than the language of Paris. From one village and town to the next there is a chain or continuum. Fluent speaker French Italian Dijon and Lyon Rome Paris Turin and Milan

Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 RP: a social accent Received Pronunciation, or RP for short, is the instantly recognisable accent often described as ‘typically British’. Popular terms for this accent, such as ‘The Queen’s English’, ‘Oxford English’ or ‘BBC English’ are all a little misleading. The Queen, for instance, speaks an almost unique form of English, while the English we hear at Oxford University or on the BBC is no longer restricted to one type of accent.

Language , Society & Culture 11/18/2018 RP is an accent, not a dialect, since all RP speakers speak Standard English. In other words, they avoid non-standard grammatical constructions and localised vocabulary characteristic of regional dialects. RP is also regionally non- specific, that is it does not contain any clues about a speaker’s geographic background. But it does reveal a great deal about their social and/or educational background.
