Alumni Newsletter, Spring 2011 Celebrating the holiday TAU SIGMA PHI Alumni Newsletter, Spring 2011 Dear Alumni of Tau Sigma Phi, It is my honor to be the new Alumni Coordinator for Tau Sigma Phi actives here at Carthage College. Though we have had a rough few years, I am pleased to inform you our Fraternal Brotherhood remains strong and our future looks very bright. We have a great core of actives and we will continue to strive to restore our Brotherhood and re-establish ourselves to the rightful position of top dog here at Carthage College. We just recently held elections and the new E-Board has been determined and can be found posted in this newsletter. Our new president Chris Williams along with the rest of the E-Board will continue to meet with our advisors and Dean of Students to make sure our fraternity is doing right by school standards. We will welcome a new pledge class at the end of February and they will pick their Pledge Fathers and be inducted to the pledge process by our Pledge Trainer, John “Yianni” Christopoulos. Our “Little Sisters” are currently trying to increase their activity in the Greek system here at Carthage and will hopefully operate more independently with more responsibilities and input. They will still be an important part of our fraternity but hopefully they can make a name for themselves with this new direction. Finally, I would like to open this semester’s pledging process and event planning up for any suggestions. I would very much appreciate any input that would be beneficial to our Brotherhood. The strongest part of the tree is the roots, and we cannot grow without knowing where we came from. We wish you the best from everyone here at Tau Sigma Phi and cannot wait for any input that will make our experience that much better. Spring 2010 Texas Hold’em Tournament Greetings from the Tau Sigma Phi Alumni Board, Since our letter last spring 2010, the Tau Sigma Phi Fraternity is pleased to report that we continue to grow in strength, reputation, and numbers. Last year’s reorganization of the fraternity through the school’s approval and support has opened the doors for the addition of a strong new group of members. With 31 current actives and the acceptance of 7 new members, to be initiated this spring, the fraternity stands to finish another strong year. Over the course of the year the Tau Sigs have been constructing a website to express our progress and showcase our members. We hope this website, tausigmaphi.weebly.com, will serve as a platform for professional networking. Please visit the website and post a comment. Recently a new Executive Board was inducted with the addition of an alumni coordinator position. This is a pivotal position as the connection between our actives and alumni remains weak. The Tau Sigs plan to construct newsletters to send to the alumni on an annual basis, informing everyone on the fraternity’s progress and current activities. As a recent graduate and four-year active of Tau Sigma Phi I attribute my early career success to current actives and support of alumni. The benefit of having a network of brothers is the greatest asset in a person’s life. As alumni I encourage you to help the current actives and future generations of Tau Sigs the same way my brothers have helped me. To strengthen this bond of brotherhood, the Alumni Board, together with the current actives and pledges are hosting our second annual Texas Hold’em Tournament for all alumni to gather, resume old friendships, meet new brothers, and introduce the actives and pledges to the alumni. Funds raised at the event will be contributed to the building of the fraternity and preparation for the 50th anniversary of Tau Sigma Phi. The suggested donation/buy in amount is $25. A separate amount of approximately $20 will include snacks, dinner and tapped beer. A cash bar will be available throughout the evening. The Alumni Board has rented The Lighthouse Bistro, an exclusive restaurant and bar at the Kenosha Yacht Club situated at the new harbor in downtown Kenosha. The facility has plenty of parking and will comfortably hold 120 Tau Sigs. Please join us on Saturday April, 16th at 5:00pm to celebrate the ongoing success of Tau Sigma Phi.
