Y10 Summer English Exams On Monday 25th June, in the morning, you will sit an end of year exam in the hall for English Literature and English Language. This will give you the experience of a formal exam in school, and also the experience of individual revision in preparation for a formal exam. Section A of the exam will be an extract and long question on your 19th century text (studied in Literature between Christmas and Easter). Section B of the exam will be a narrative writing question (studied in Language between Christmas and Easter).

Y10 Summer English Literature Exam SECTION A: 19th CENTURY TEXT Text options: ‘A Christmas Carol’ ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ ‘Jane Eyre’ You will need to select the question that relates to the text you have studied. There is no question choice – there is only one compulsory question on each text. You will write about an extract and the whole text (like you will do in your real GCSE Literature in Year 11) You will spend 50 minutes on this part of the exam. There are 30 marks available for this question.

Y10 Summer English Language Exam SECTION A: NARRATIVE WRITING You will get a choice of 4 titles for your creative writing piece. You will spend 45 minutes on this part of the exam. There are 40 marks available for this question: /24 communication and organisation /16 vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
