Presentation transcript:

American Presidents and British Prime Ministers From 1988 - today

British Prime Ministers

Tony Blair – Labour Party 1997-2007 Friends with Gordon Brown Many British people hate him for following Bush into Iraq

Gordon Brown – Labour Party 2007-2010 Problems with economy because of global recession British people angry again…so they voted for Conservative Party in 2010

David Cameroon – Conservative Party 2010-present He is young so young British people like him Very rich – family money

America! 

American Government 3 branches (3 parts)

#1 = Legislative branch Legislative – law makers - Senate (100 people, 2 per state) - House of Representatives (345 people, based on population, for example California has 53 because of high population)

House of Representatives

Highest Court = Supreme Court #2 = Judicial Branch Highest Court = Supreme Court

Important Cases Roe vs. Wade – 1973 women have the right to get an abortion Brown vs. Board of Education - 1954 Made separate schools for black and white illegal

George H Bush - Republican 1988-1992 War - Iraqi President Saddam Hussein attacked (America’s friend) Kuwait Bush stopped Saddam’s attack, but Saddam continued to be president of Iraq until 2003 Maybe that’s why his son, George W. Bush invaded Iraq and 9/11 terrorist attacks

Bill Clinton - Democrat 1992-2000 Best president for economy He got into big trouble because he had sex with a secretary and lied about it Wife = Hillary Clinton, also powerful - Barack Obama’s Secretary of State (international issues) Hillary Clinton

George W. Bush - Republican 2000-2008

George W. Bush vs. Al Gore Republican vs. Democrat Election of 2000

Red = Republican, Blue = Democrat Al Gore had more total votes But American system is strange, total vote does not choose winner

Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth Al Gore was boring during the election But he became famous after losing the election for this movie Topic = climate change and global warming

George W. Bush won, but did he steal the election? The country was 50/50 split … and Florida decided the winner George Bush’s brother was Governor of Florida In my opinion, Republicans are shady with elections I don’t know exactly

Why did we fight the war in Iraq, instead of hunting Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan? Father? George H. Bush didn’t finish the job with Iraqi President Saddam Hussein Oil money? Vice President Dick Cheney - his company, Halliburton, made A LOT of money I DON’T KNOW

They said “We need war in Iraq because they have ‘weapons of mass destruction’” But the UN did NOT find any weapons of mass destruction
