Distance from the sun Uranus is 1.86 billion miles from the sun. At 28,000 miles per hour (shuttle speed), it would take approximately 7.3 years to travel from Earth to Uranus.

Diameter of uranus The diameter of Uranus is about 31,518 miles.

Uranus rotation Uranus takes 17 hours and 14 minutes to make one full rotation. This is about 2/3 the time it takes earth to rotate all the way around.

Uranus makes a full revolution around the sun once every 30,687 Earth days or 84 Earth years. Uranus travels at an average speed of 15,290 mph in its orbit around the sun.

Uranus temperature range Uranus’ temperature can range from -243 F to -370 F making it the coldest planet in the solar system. Most of the heat that it receives comes from the core instead of the sun because of how far away it is from the sun. Even though it gives out most of the planets heat the core is much colder than other planets cores at 8,540 F

Uranus moons Uranus has 27 known moons, almost all of which are named after Shakespearean characters. Uranus five major moons are: Titania, Miranda, Umbriel, Ariel and Oberon.

Make up of the atmosphere and surface Uranus’ atmosphere is made up of hydrogen(82.5%), helium(15.2%) and methane(2.3%). Uranus’ surface is mostly made up of frozen methane, water and ammonia. Uranus’ core is made up of silicate, iron and nickel.

Gravity compared to earth Uranus’ gravity is 8.69 meters/seconds(squared) which is only 90% of earths 9.8 meters/second(squared). Even though Uranus is much larger than Earth, because of its composition (hydrogen, helium), it’s lighter and therefore has less gravitational pull.

Discovery of uranus Uranus was discovered by sir William Herschel on March 13, 1781.

Facts about uranus Uranus wind speeds can reach up to 560 mph Uranus’ axis is tilted at 98 degrees which means the poles lie where the equator is on Earth. This tilt causes one side of the planet to have total darkness for about 42 years and the other side total sunlight. Uranus has 13 known rings. Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system.
