FIVE THEMES OF GEOGRAPHY There are 5 themes of geography that are used in social studies to discuss and describe places on earth.
LOCATION A Theme of geography. locates a place on earth by finding the exact position of a place.
ABSOLUTE LOCATION A sub Theme of location. Describes a place's location on Earth using Latitude and Longitude (x,y) or street address. WMS is at 4489 Highway 301, Halifax, NC 27839
RELATIVE LOCATION A sub Theme of location. Explains where a place is by using landmarks, distance, or direction. WMS is next to the Dept of Social Services
PLACE A Theme of geography. Describes what a place looks like by describing the landforms and man made buildings.
A sub Theme of place. These features are Natural landforms. PHYSICAL FEATURE A sub Theme of place. These features are Natural landforms. mountains, rivers, oceans, deserts, plants, and animals
A sub Theme of place. These features are man made structures. HUMAN FEATURE A sub Theme of place. These features are man made structures. bridges, roads, buildings
HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION A Theme of geography. Describes how humans interact with the environment. Adapt → get use to the environment Depend → need the environment modify→ change their environment.
MOVEMENT A Theme of geography. Describes how people, goods, and ideas move throughout the area.
