See, Think, Wonder

What is Islam? Islam = monotheistic religion founded around 600AD Founded by Prophet Muhammad in present-day Saudi Arabia Believes in all the same prophets as Christians, but ALSO believes in Muhammad as final prophet

What does Islam teach?

Why did people follow Muhammed? Said that God spoke to him Known for being a good political leader. Teachings of Islam benefited the poor. Provided religious tolerance to “people of the book” (Jews & Christians).

How did Islam spread? (tactics)

Analyzing Sources Who wrote the document & why? This enables us to determine if we think the source is credible (trustworthy). How can I know if it is credible? You can’t. You can only make an educated guess. Does the source have a reason to be biased? If so, you might conclude that it is not as credible as others. Will we all agree? Probably not. Historians disagree a lot, but they all develop an understanding of events by analyzing sources. That is what we will practice today.
