How will you survive the end of the world as you know it?

The world as we know it is about to end The world as we know it is about to end. You must relocate to one of the few habitable locations in Southwest Asia. As a representative of your country, your task is to convince the few people remaining why they should follow you to your assigned country for settlement.

What is the climate like in your assigned country What is the climate like in your assigned country? What is the population? Why would that be important to consider? How would geographical and physical features affect people’s choice to follow you? Remaining Habitable Countries Describe the habitat. What is the food web and energy transfer like? Why would this be important information to know? Think about the water cycle and quality of water found in your country. How would this play a role? Afghanistan Lebanon Iran Saudi Arabia Iraq Turkey Israel In your assigned country, what are the aquatic communities like? How is water distributed? How is water used? Are there sustainable communities in your assigned country? Why is this significant?

If the world were represented by 100 people Don’t’ forget to set up your PURPOSE FOR VIEWING! Give them the purpose before they watch. You may need to play the video two times.

How does where you live affect how you live?

Links to Songs If you’re interested! Reading teachers: It would be powerful if you could spend a class period analyzing and breaking apart the lyrics of this song. Purpose: How do the lyrics of The End of The World As We Know it help support the title of the song? Find evidence to support what message the song writer was trying to share. How do you know? AC Rdg: Take this to another level—ask students to work in a group to find another song that is relevant to the same message. Ask them to Compare/contrast the two songs with what is going on in our own country right now. Ask students to determine how what they are studying now in SS connects to the lyrics in the song.

It’s the End of the World as We Know It- REM

Some Nights - FUN (censored) Also has powerful lyrics. You can compare/contrast the main idea (or MVP—most value point) of both songs. Do either of these songs support a book the students have read/are reading?
