University Corridor Map
Project Description For my semester project, I propose studying the University Corridor to analyze its current infrastructure and land use. Then, investigate the potential to maximize the new transit system and integrate the system into the communities along the line. Investigate ways to strengthen, organize, and further define these communities through the creation of “town centers”. Dense, populated, areas designed to absorb and consolidate most of the trips through the corridor, thereby improving transit and congestion through the region.
Project Goals Identify distinct communities along the corridor. Analyze the existing land use (residential, commercial, etc. as well as population density). Identify popular destinations along the corridor, as well as their relationship to the community. Identify locations prime for development Analyze corridor from a pedestrian standpoint and identify ways to improve access by pedestrians. Identify areas that could potentially serve as “town centers” or popular destinations (live, work, play) for the surrounding communities and help to further define and develop these communities. Select a town center location and design master plan.
