PK4 Mrs. Hickey & Mrs. Guerrero Leap Day 2018 PK4 Mrs. Hickey & Mrs. Guerrero Welcome the students / parents. Introduce who is in the room. Parents don’t always know faces and names of teachers that have not had their children yet. Students: Show them your excitement about them coming! SELL!! Parents: Thank them for coming. You are excited to have their children next year. Remember – the best is yet to come!

Typical Day 8:05-8:20 Calendar/Morning Meeting 8:20-9:00 Specials (Library, Music, PE) 9:00-9:30 Snack 9:30-10:15 Language Arts 10:15-10:45 Math 10:45-11:00 Religion (with extra time on Thursdays) 11:00-11:30 Social Studies/Science (alternate) 11:30-12:30 Recess & Lunch 12:45-2:00 Naptime 2:00-2:45 Centers/Work jobs/Prep for dismissal MS – HS typical day MWF and T TH Lower school typical day. Insert of a “schedule” image would be great here!

Subjects PK4 Specials: Language Arts Library – Mr. Brassil Math Music – Mrs. Ward Religion P.E. – Coach Breaux Social Studies Science Reading Buddies Geography with 5th Grade Add teacher names to give details – lets everyone put faces to subjects. Any other details to add about courses? Don’t forget specialists! Note frequency – once a week, 30 minutes, etc.

What should we expect? Outside of the Classroom We focus on learning uppercase & lowercase letters, numbers 1-20, and beginning reading skills, among a lot more! Homework is sent home twice a week – 1 Language Arts & 1 Math Sheet We go to Mass once a week in the PK-2nd grade Mass Help for students who may need small group or one-to-one attention Students are given small group attention plus the opportunity to be paired with others with similar skill sets and provide peer assistance, as well. We have snack, lunch, recess, and nap daily. Some of this should come from your parent presentation at the start of the year. They don’t need details of folders home, etc. But overview type information. Outside of the Classroom Athletics (PK4 – 4th grade = parent led teams through YMCA)

What makes PK4 amazing? Petting farm visit, Firefighter and Police Officer Visits All Saints’ Day students dress up Nativity Play: Students re-enact the story of the Nativity with songs Apostolic projects Boosterthon fundraiser Field Day Public Speaking / Life skills / Patriotic songs Embrace children’s cultures and what makes them UNIQUE! Your child will enjoy learning in the classroom while at the same time having fun! What makes your grade / grades unique? Stand out from others at THS? Compared to other schools?

Ie: MS – We prepare students for their first choice of high school, etc. Our typical 8th grade is Algebra I.

The Highlands School Dr. Pennell, our school Principal, has a deep commitment to learning and accountability for learning from PK to High School. Focus on core learning areas of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. Instruction on use of technology from K-8th grade Continued focus on communication to parents, use of Renweb, and student planners beginning in 1st grade. In PK4 we use Remind text messaging app, Monthly Newsletters, and email. We are here to support you and communication is very important to us!

Re-Enrollment for 2018-2019 Re-Enrollment packet will be emailed to you. Re-Enrollment is February 5 – March 1. Seats are only held through March 1. No change in tuition for 2018-2019. Late fees begin on March 2. Watch email for more details!! Do not change this slide.
