Presentation transcript:

How much waste does each person in the countries produce each year? To examine the differences between HIC and LIC waste production and be able to explain why there are differences in the amounts of waste produced. Put the countries in order of the amount of waste they produce per capita (per person) per year. Put the highest first! USA Ireland Norway Denmark UK How much waste does each person in the countries produce each year? Laos Vietnam Thailand Top waste producing countries: Ireland (800kg/person/year) Norway (780kg) USA (760) Denmark (725) UK (10th - 600 ) Waste production figures LICs: Laos (237kg/person/year) Vietnam (182) Thailand (73)

Do they really waste more food in Bangladesh than in the USA? The actual amount of food wasted is small but the percentage is high as they produce so little waste in total

Why is much less waste produced in LICs? Packaging Little packaging is used on products, so there is limited plastic waste. Low income Consumer purchases are very limited because of low incomes Cloth nappies Illiteracy Disposable nappies and single use drinks containers are rarely sold. Many people cannot read, so fewer newspapers are sold.
