Student Handbook Handbook Located on the school website, on the home page.

Expected Behavior throughout the Day 5th Graders are expected to follow procedures throughout the day no matter where they are in the building… NO TALKING in the hallways: switching classes, going to and from lunch, restroom breaks. Specials: Art, Music, PE, Stem We highly encourage students to be on their best behavior and often remind them that other students are watching them and looking up to them as a role model this year.

Behavior System: Class DOJO and color system We will use class dojo to monitor student behavior. You will be able to view your child’s dojo points throughout the day using their class dojo account. Points can be rewarded for positive behavior and points will be deducted for misbehavior. ~Blue: Student goes above and beyond the expectation in the class. (7 positive points) ~Green: Student is following the expectations of the class. ~Yellow: Student needs some reminders following the expectations of the classroom. (after 3 dojo points are deducted) ~Red: Frequent reminders have been given to follow the expectations set in the classroom. (After 6 points are deducted) If a student is continuously on red, he or she will be on the discipline cycle. parent/guardian will be contacted regarding the behavior. If the negative behavior continues after the parent/guardian is contacted, then the student will have a visit to the office!

Cafeteria Policies Due to limited seating, only you and your child may sit at our guest tables. Please do not allow them to have a friend sit with them. If you would like to sit at your child’s class table, please follow our “level 0” rule while the music is on. You may bring store bought birthday treats to share with only your child’s class. Please do not give them to children in other classes. It is your child’s responsibility to get what they need when going through the line. They will not be allowed to get out of their seat except in the case of an emergency during lunch.

Goal System Brag Tag Fridays: Every Friday the students will be able to wear their brag tags!! Brag Tags are earned by meeting goals throughout the year: scoring 85% and higher on CDAs, meeting the fluency goals (143wpm), meeting their reading goals, mastering multiplication and division facts, earning a character trait, caught doing something good (thumbs up), completing the BLAST program, etc. After meeting their goals, the students will be able to earn CDA Charms and other various charms to add to their Brag tag.

Goal Sheets In addition to their brag tags that are worn for positive reinforcement, students are also to keep up with their goals sheets. Goal sheets are the most effective means of communication between parent and teacher regarding CDA grades, reading fluency, and math fluency. Before taking a CDA, the student will write down his/her goal. After taking the CDA, the student will write down the actual grade. The student will write a reflection on his/her grade in the box provided about whether or not the goal was met and was could be done next time to improve the score. The parent will sign the yellow goal sheet after reviewing the child’s grade and progress in that area of study.
