Buddhism was developed in India by a man called Siddartha Gotama. His father was the ruler of a small kingdom in the area of Nepal and Siddartha was born in Lumbini in about 563 BC. His parents lived in a splendid palace.

What did Buddha teach people about? He did not teach people about God. There is no God in Buddhism. He did not teach anything about how the world was created He did not teach about life after death. As there is no life after death What he did teach about was how to stop suffering.

Siddartha was brought up as a Hindu More than 50% of Buddhism Teachings are part of Hinduism, the most popular religion in India.

The Life of Buddha – Special Signs Before and after his birth there were signs that the child would be important. One is that his Mother Queen Maya had a dream a special dream which meant the Buddha was going to be important

Life of Buddha: Birth. The king was concerned about this prophesy. Therefore Siddhartha’s father decided that he should be raised in luxury and sheltered from the realities of life, such as illness, old age, and Mortality (death).

The life of Buddha: the child. Siddhartha had a special way with animals. One day his cousin shot a swan whilst hunting. Siddhartha calmed and treated the swan. His cousin was angry but the wise Men decided the Swan was Siddhartha’s as he had saved it.

Life of Buddha: Marriage and family Siddhartha eventually married his cousin Princess Yashodhara and had a son. However, one day…despite his father’s orders, he decided to leave the palace grounds and go into the nearby city with Chanda, his chariot driver.

Palace Life

Life of Buddha: Nirvana. For seven years, he lived the life of a wandering holy man. He spent time with different teachers and was a good student. However, this did not help him get any closer to the root of the problem of suffering and sadness.

Life of Buddha: Becoming a Sage. He tried living an asthetic life and subjected his body to hardship. He remembered how as a young boy, he had sat under the shade of a tree and become absorbed in meditation. He found a peaceful spot under a Bodhi tree and vowed not to get up until he found the “truth”.

Put the story of Siddhartha Gautama in order He lived a life of luxury in a palace He saw suffering for the first time He went and meditated under a Bohdi tree for forty six days He left the palace to find out more about the world

The correct order!! He lived a life of luxury in a palace He left the palace to find out more about the world He saw suffering for the first time He went and meditated under a Bohdi tree for forty six days
