The False Virtue of Moral Neutrality When the moral compass is broken, one direction seems as good as another The world tells us that moral neutrality and moral tolerance are great virtues, but the Scriptures reveal a much different picture. They are filled with clear moral judgments. God shows us right from wrong, enables us to tell a good man from a bad man, and gives us the responsibility of teaching, warning and loving those who are immoral.

Most people live in an imaginary land between good and evil!

The Scriptures are filled with clear moral judgments Sodom & Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-13) Israel’s sin with Baal Peor (Num. 25:1-4) Immorality in the church at Corinth (1 Cor. 5:1-13)

God teaches what is right & wrong, moral & immoral. He is the definition of RIGHT! (Ps. 25:8) He has the right to determine what’s right and to punish those who don’t do right! (Romans 1:18-32) He has given us the moral direction which we could not determine for ourselves! (Jer. 10:23)

Tolerance is not the Ultimate Virtue There are things we must not put up with! (2 Cor. 11:19-20; 2 Timothy 3:1-5) There are many moral virtues that tolerance cannot trump! (Phil. 4:8) The command to “judge not” does not mean that we cannot tell the difference between a good man and a bad man! (Lk. 6:37-45)

How should Christians deal with the immoral and the amoral? Teach them and warn them. (Ezekiel 33:1-9; 1 Thessalonians 5:14) Don’t let them influence you to tolerate sin or walk in the wrong direction. (Jeremiah 6:14; Proverbs 12:26) Prepare to be rejected, but hope for some to change. (1 Peter 4:4; 1 Cor. 6:9-11)
