WHO’S BETTER AT ESTIMATING MALES OR FEMALES

QUESTION Who’s better at estimating males or females?

PURPOSE The purpose of this project is to determine who is better at estimating the unknown, males or females? This is important because you want to go to the person who is better.

HYPOTHESIS We hypothesis that females will be the better estimating. We believe this because they are good at math and school.

Procedure

Jar Kit Kat's Crayons Paper clips Bracelets Rubber bands MATERIALS Jar Kit Kat's Crayons Paper clips Bracelets Rubber bands

Manipulated: males and females Responding: estimates VARIABLES Manipulated: males and females Responding: estimates Constant: jar, same amount of things in the jar for each trial, the number of each gender asked to estimate.

DIRECTIONS 1. Record how many Kit Kat's fit in the jar. 2. Put kit Kat's in jar. 3. Have males and females estimate the number of Kit Kat's they think is in the jar. 4. Repeat 1-3 with rubber bands. 5. Repeat 1-3with paper clips 6. Repeat 1-3 with bracelets 7. Repeat 1-3 with crayons 8. In each trial, calculate the average estimate. 9. Calculate the average difference between actual and average estimates.

AVERAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTUAL AND ESTIMATES

Conclusion Our hypothesis was incorrect. Males are better at estimating than females. The average difference between actual and estimates for the males was 93.24 and the females was129.94. It would be interesting to see if males were better at estimating other things such as height and distance.
