demonstrated in many ways … Leadership; not a title, but a set of qualities… demonstrated in many ways … we can all lead from where we are.

Change; 'The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change’ Heraclitus we’re constantly adapting to change … getting faster change (+/-) is emotional and fluid involves trial and error and continuous improvement.

Some change is planned … some is not

Some of the strategies we use to adapt to change that we didn’t choose, are the same strategies we can use when leading change …

Neuroscience & Change

WHAT will this change bring? Social Brain: Uncertainty & Fear Change creates uncertainty and the brain can fill uncertainty with fear to keep us safe Error Message Fear-Based Prediction Emotional Shift WORST CASE scenario? FIGHT or FLIGHT! WHAT will this change bring?

Problems: Strange Attractors FIGHT The for your attention Threat/Pain Reward/Pleasure ‘Problems’ can have more pulling power over our attention, meaning that sometimes the ‘POSITIVES’ of change can get swamped by the ‘PROBLEMS’ with change.

Notice where the focus is, by what’s being said DRAMA (Fight/Flight) PROBLEM (Locked-state) DETAIL (Problem/Solutions) PLANNING (Strategy) VISION (Outcomes/Goals) (Adapted from the five levels of focus | David Rock)

Solution Focused Mindset Oxygen in the Brain Motivation Speed to Solution Performance - + DRAMA (Fight/Fight) PROBLEM (Locked-state) DETAIL (Problem/Solutions) PLANNING (Strategy) VISION (Outcomes/Goals) PROBLEMS SOLUTIONS

Mindset & Leading Change What’s the most useful way I can raise concerns and create learning? Which of my strengths can I apply to meet the challenges of this change? What can I do to look after myself through this change? How can I support others who are struggling with change? What examples can I set to the people around me? What do I need to let go of or embrace to really lead this change? Mindset & Leading Change
