CHAPTER 24: INDUSTRY COMES OF AGE. 1865-1900

CH 24: INDUSTRY What do I need to know or be able to do? I can explain how massive change in technology and communications created new markets for “consumerism” I can describe who Robber Barons were, and how they came to be. I can explain Social Darwinism, and how it applies to business, monopolies and trusts. I understand what “conspicuous consumption” is and how it connects to our world today.

CH. 24: INDUSTRY The Railroads: What were some of the positives and negatives of the Railroad revolution? Why do some say the catalyst for post-Civil War expansion was the railroad industry. Do you agree? Why? If it was such a good thing for the country, explain the 1877 railroad strike.

CH. 24: INDUSTRY III. The Age of invention: Why do some say a “New Age” begins due to new inventions with the ability to communicate? What does Mass Production mean for the average American? Changes in transportation and architecture allow more mobility and consumption of goods “Consumerism.”
