Major Historical Developments Stone Age Bronze Age Iron Age Middle Age Renaissance Age Industrial Age Information Age

Stone Age 250,000 B.C. – 3,000 B.C. A time for survival Made tools out of natural materials like stone, wood, and bone. Most tools were used for agriculture and hunting Tools made it easier to survive.

Bronze Age 3000 B.C. – 1200 B.C. People learned to make bronze out of copper and tin. Made it easier to shape metal. Made Better weapons and tools Development of Ships, Chariots, and Glass

Iron Age 1200 B.C. – 500 A.D. People learned how to mine and use iron, which is harder than bronze. Improved tools Development of the plow, and irrigation Development of the Alphabet, Water wheel, Calendar, and the Great Wall of china.

Middle Age 500 A.D. – 1500 A.D. Brought about a number of technological developments that led to industrialization. Increased trade due to advancement in Agriculture. Development of paper money, Magnetic Compass, and printing press. Rockets and Gunpowder developed.

Renaissance Age 1450 A.D.-1700A.D. Was a rebirth of the arts and humanities Leonardo da Vinci created Drawings. The first screwdriver was invented Development of Telescope, and submarine Gutenburg invented the printing press. Use to produce the bible and other literature

Industrial Age 1700-1940 Point in history in which factories took over the production of most products. People began to migrate towards cities for jobs Trade over long distances increased Development of Steam Engine, Transcontinental Railroad, Radio, Airplane

Information Age 1940-Present Emphasizes processing and exchanging information Explosion of computers, calculators and communication processes. Development of binary language, transistors, and microchips Technological developments grow at an exponential rate Development or Cell Phone, Internet, Solar Energy

Assignment Use your handout to create a Time Line on Microsoft Word. Give the time period and what each age was known for while providing 3 examples of what was developed during that age.
