Abbasid- dynasty that came after Umayyads Suleiman-Ottoman sultan; ruled in 1500’s Mogul- Muslim warriors who came from mountains N. of India through Khyber Pass. Akbar- greatest Mogul ruler; brought peace & stability to India

How Did Islam Split Shiites: Believed only future caliphs should only be decedents of Ali (Muhammad’s son-in-law) Sunnis: Accepted Umayyad dynasty as rightful caliphs Over time Shiites and Sunnis developed different types of religious practices and customs
