Active School Week Active Schools Week takes place across Northamptonshire between Monday 21st and Friday and 25th May 2018. Schools are encouraged to embrace the challenge of turning their school into an Active School. Active Schools embrace physical activity as a tool for enhancing learning. They take learning away from the confines of chairs, tables and classrooms and get pupils moving as part of their daily school lives.

#SNDGetActive Day - Friday 25th May A call to action to get our schools moving on the last day of term. All South Northants and Daventry schools and colleges are invited to take part in the ‘##SNDGetActive Challenge on Friday 25th May 2018. The challenge is for teaching staff to plan and deliver ‘active lessons’ which involve their students becoming active and on their feet for a minimum of 50% of their normal classroom lesson time. The challenge will encourage teaching staff to consider their role in promoting active lifestyles and minimising sedentary behaviour within the school environment. Schools and individual members of staff will be invited to make a pledge to deliver active lessons during the day, contributing to a district target of 500 active lessons.

Active School Week Ideas could include: Active Travel – Park the car! Walk, cycle or scoot to school. Active Classrooms – remove the chairs, move the tables, create active learning areas. Active Lessons – take lessons outside, into the hall or move around the classroom. Close the workbooks and devise creative ways to learn. Break up long learning periods with short active breaks. Active Lunch and Playtimes – set up Playground Challenges, set up games and run team competitions.

Active School Week Maths of the Day & iMoves – active lessons plans BBC Supermovers – active lesson resources GoNoodle! – active break resources Just Dance (YouTube) - active break resources YourSchoolGames – competition and challenge resources Change4Life Shake Ups – active break resources BigPedal 2018 – Cycle/Scoot to School resources Daily Mile – active break resources

Get Involved Schools will be contacted by the end of April with information about Active Schools Week Teachers asked to complete a pledge to deliver a target number of active lessons. Sports Crew share and promote the Active Child Challenge. Share your photos during the Week using the hashtag #SNDGetActive and tagging @SNDSchoolSport
